Keep natural leaf kratom legal and accessible in Tennessee
Dear [Lawmaker],
I am writing as a Tennessee resident and consumer concerned about legislative proposals that could severely restrict access to natural leaf kratom. Natural kratom leaf is a traditional botanical that more than 23 million Americans rely on for functional benefits, and I respectfully urge you to ensure that safe, natural kratom remains legal and accessible in our state. It is important to distinguish between natural leaf kratom and dangerous synthetic derivatives that have recently emerged in the marketplace. Products concentrated with synthetic 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) are opioids that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently recommended be scheduled as Schedule I drugs under the federal Controlled Substances Act. The state of Florida quickly followed suit by removing 7-OH products from store shelves. The FDA and state of Florida were clear that natural leaf kratom was not the target of their actions. Their actions were aimed at stopping the proliferation of dangerous 7-OH opioid products. Responsible consumers and the Global Kratom Coalition support reasonable regulations on natural kratom to ensure product safety, such as age restrictions, labeling standards, and bans on adulterated products. We do not support the market entry of synthetic or semi-synthetic concentrated products that bear no resemblance to natural kratom. I respectfully ask that you oppose any legislation that would eliminate access to natural kratom leaf and instead support measures that protect consumers from synthetic adulterants while preserving legal access to safe, regulated, natural kratom. Thank you for your service and for considering the voices of Tennesseans who want to make responsible choices about their own health.
Sincerely,
______
