Oppose Senate Bill 17
Dear [Lawmaker],
As a law-abiding New Mexico resident and your constituent, I am writing to urge you to OPPOSE Senate Bill 17. SB 17 is an extreme and unconstitutional gun control package that would ban commonly owned firearms and magazines that are in widespread lawful use by responsible citizens. This legislation does nothing to address violent crime and instead punishes lawful gun owners and small businesses that already comply with the law. The bill also imposes excessive regulatory mandates on local firearm dealers, including costly security requirements and unrealistic compliance deadlines, while exposing them to felony penalties for minor technical violations. Additionally, SB 17 raises serious privacy concerns by establishing centralized record-keeping systems that track purchaser identities and firearm serial numbers. I respectfully ask that you defend the constitutional rights of New Mexicans and vote NO on SB 17. Thank you for your time and consideration.
