The so-called Clear Horizons Act would raise energy costs, expand unchecked bureaucracy, and put New Mexico’s economy at risk.
SB 18 imposes rigid, unrealistic mandates that threaten the energy industry and virtually every area of our economy—industries that fund schools, public safety, infrastructure, and essential state services. If these jobs and revenues leave New Mexico, families will face higher costs, fewer opportunities, and a weaker economy.
New Mexico has already proven that extreme mandates are unnecessary. Our state leads the nation in methane emissions reductions while achieving record high energy production. That progress came through innovation and responsible regulation—not sweeping rules written into law with no regard for economic reality.
SB 18 goes too far. It would make New Mexico more expensive, less competitive, and harder to live in—and everyday New Mexicans will pay the price.
