How can the Clear Horizons bill be bad for every New Mexican? The devil is in the details.
Dear [Lawmaker],
The Clear Horizons bill will devastate the New Mexico economy and make our state more expensive to live in. Every New Mexican will be negatively impacted by this bill. We all want a clean environment, but SB 18 attempts to set unrealistic standards that will cause utility prices to rise. It simply isn’t possible for New Mexico’s oil & gas industry, or any industrial industry for that matter, to exist and meet the demands of this bill. If the oil and gas industry can’t produce in New Mexico, the state may not be able to support childcare for all, higher teacher salaries, first responders, and so much more. New Mexico is #1 in methane reduction while achieving record high production. We’ve proven it is possible to have both a thriving energy industry and cleaner environment. The Clear Horizons Act is too extreme. Lawmakers in Santa Fe need a reality check, we can’t let New Mexicans suffer the extreme consequences of this bill.
