We need your help! We have heard from multiple sources that the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee plans to meet today, Feb. 13, to pass the maintenance budgets of the state, but is considering not passing any supplemental budgets.

Let’s be clear, “supplemental budgets” are necessary budgets and without them Medicaid will take a significant budget reduction. That would be tens of millions of dollars cut to the Medicaid program.

We are asking you to email your legislator if they sit on JFAC and urge them to pass the full Medicaid budget. We are five weeks into the legislative session, and your advocacy has had a huge impact!

We stopped the additional cuts in the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee a few weeks ago because of the public pressure.

I am writing to urge you to support full supplemental funding for the Medicaid program as you consider the state budget.

Supplemental budgets are not optional spending. They reflect actual, necessary costs already incurred to provide critical health and long-term services. Failing to approve these funds would result in significant reductions to Medicaid, impacting people with disabilities, older adults, children, and the providers who serve them.

Without supplemental funding, the state would effectively be making tens of millions of dollars in cuts to essential services. This would:

•Disrupt care for individuals who rely on Medicaid every day

•Threaten the stability of community-based providers

•Increase pressure on hospitals, emergency rooms, and families

•Undermine our shared commitment to serving the most vulnerable

Medicaid is a lifeline that supports health, independence, and community integration. It is also a cost-effective investment that prevents more expensive institutional care and reduces long-term state costs.
