D.C. is already too expensive. Now the D.C. Council is considering a costly bottle bill that would raise prices on everyday grocery items for residents and hurt local businesses.

Our city needs support, not higher prices.

Dear [Lawmaker],

I am writing as an employee of a small business to express my concern and opposition to the proposed D.C. Bottle Bill. While I appreciate the goal of protecting our environment, this bill would increase costs and create complications for businesses that would very likely have a direct impact on workers like me who depend on a local business for income.

Small businesses have been hit hard by inflation and ongoing economic downturns. So we shouldn’t be making things worse by forcing businesses to pay more under this program and potentially take on new administrative duties they aren’t trained for. That guarantees failure for most small businesses.

We all want to see D.C. thrive and we share the goal of reducing litter and taking action to keep our environment clean. But that means supporting policies that protect the environment and provide a strong footing for the workers and businesses that are important to the community. This bill does not accomplish that.

Please stand with local workers and small businesses who are vital to the strength of the District. Say NO to the D.C. Bottle Bill.
