The Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is considering hiking the curbside rideshare fee by 300%—from $5 to an unprecedented $20 per trip, or $40 roundtrip.

This would make LAX fees more than 3X higher than any other airport in the U.S.

While this will hurt all travelers, it will be especially tough on seniors, families, and mobility-challenged travelers who rely on the convenience of curbside access.

As concerned riders, travelers, and residents of Los Angeles, we are deeply troubled by the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) proposal to implement a massive, regressive fee hike on rideshare access at LAX.
LAWA is planning to raise the per-trip curbside fee for popular rideshare options by 300%—from $5 to an unprecedented $20.
This is a financial crisis for travelers.
If these rules are adopted, a single round-trip to LAX could cost travelers an extra $40 just in access fees, making LAX fees 3X higher than any other major airport in the country.
This is not a fair charge; it is a regressive tax that will compound the high cost of living in Los Angeles and directly undermine the accessibility of our airport.
This proposal targets those who need access the most.
The convenience and reliability of curbside pickup and drop-off is not a luxury—it is a necessity. This fee hike disproportionately impacts:
- Seniors and Travelers with Mobility Issues
- Families with Children and Heavy Luggage
- Working Angelenos who rely on affordable, dependable airport transit
We urge the BOAC to reject these proposed changes and to prioritize fair, affordable access for the millions of people who rely on LAX.
As Riders and Residents, We Stand United in Our Request that the BOAC:
1. Immediately Halt the scheduled vote on the proposed TNC fee increase and access changes.
2. Reject the 300% Fee Hike that raises the curbside cost to $20 per trip, as it creates an unacceptable financial burden on travelers.
3. Initiate a Transparent Stakeholder Process that includes public forums and releases the underlying data and rationale before any new fees are imposed.
4. Prioritize Universal Mobility and explore equitable funding solutions that do not penalize vulnerable travelers or jeopardize LA’s reputation for accessibility ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics.
We trust that the Board will consider the voices of LA riders and travelers who seek fair, affordable access.
