We need your help now by placing the JCC HVAC replacement funding on the December State Bond Commission Agenda!  If we miss this window of timing, we cannot replace the system until next winter risking a repeat of the summer of 2024 closure of the facility.

Your constituents, Connecticut residents from 94 municipalities – an astounding 56 percent of the state’s 169 municipalities – rely on the Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven for preschool, afterschool, wellness, gathering, events and nonprofit support. With more than 50,000 visits per month, our membership reflects the full diversity of Connecticut: families of every faith, culture, age, and ability, with the majority coming from HUD-defined low- and moderate-income neighborhoods.

For 32 years, we have cared for our HVAC system, which has a lifespan of 20 years.  We have never asked for help before, funding all needs from within the community, but we cannot replace the HVAC without state funding.

This is particularly urgent given your administration’s commitment to creating 1,000 new preschool and early learning slots across Connecticut. The JCC provides 120 of those essential slots—nearly one-eighth of your statewide goal—and they are at risk if our HVAC system fails again. When the system failed last summer, our preschool was forced to close, instantly displacing hundreds of working families who rely on us for stable, high-quality early childhood education.

You have consistently recognized that infrastructure includes more than roads and bridges—it includes the places where young children build the foundations of literacy, social-emotional growth, and lifelong opportunity.

An investment through the State Bond Commission in a new HVAC system will directly support your early-childhood priorities and ensure that Connecticut does not jeopardize 120 much-needed preschool slots even for a few months.

With your partnership, we can protect and stabilize these preschool slots so Connecticut’s children and families continue to rely on them for decades to come.
