Allow Local TV Stations to Thrive – Eliminate the Cap on Broadcast Reach
Dear [Lawmaker],
As a constituent and a loyal viewer of local television, I am urging you to support the future of local broadcasting by eliminating the outdated federal cap on how many households TV station groups can reach. Today, global tech and streaming companies like Netflix and Amazon can reach 100% of American homes without limits. Yet local stations – my trusted sources for news, emergency updates and community reporting – are arbitrarily restricted in how much they can grow. This puts them at a competitive disadvantage and limits their ability to invest in local journalism. Local stations deserve the same opportunity to reach audiences and compete in today’s media marketplace as Big Tech giants. Please urge the Federal Communications Commission to eliminate the national ownership cap and ensure a level playing field for local TV broadcasters. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
______
