OPPOSE MANDATES THAT WOULD HIKE HEALTH CARE COSTS AND CUT COVERAGE

Dear [Lawmaker],

As your constituent, I urge you to oppose misguided and excessive government mandates in the U.S. House reconciliation bill that would hike health care costs for millions of hardworking Americans, force more than eight million off their coverage entirely, and destabilize the entire health care system.

Harmful proposed changes to the individual health insurance marketplace that would undermine competition through excessive mandates, combined with a massive health care take hike if premium tax credits (PTCs) are allowed to expire, would dramatically increase health care costs for more than 24 million hardworking Americans and throw more than eight million Americans off their coverage entirely.

These disastrous policies would destabilize the individual health care market and throw the entire health care system into chaos, placing a greater strain on health care providers as more Americans seek care without insurance and forcing facilities to close, exacerbating access to care challenges, especially in rural communities. The spiraling impact would ultimately cost American taxpayers far more in the long run. Congress should focus on solutions that would effectively eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in our health care system, not policies that raise costs, stifle competition, and result in lost coverage for hardworking Americans.

Congress must act now. As your constituent, I urge you to 1) oppose excessive government mandates targeting the individual health insurance marketplace, like banning innovative cost-saving support for Americans to afford their out-of-pocket costs, arbitrarily shortening the open enrollment period, and ending the standard practice of auto-reenrollment, including for Americans who rely on an employer for their coverage, and 2) extend the health care tax credit to protect hardworking Americans’ health care coverage and avert a massive health care tax hike.

Please act to protect Americans from the consequences of a massive health care cost hike, lost coverage, and chaos in the marketplace.
