Say no to hurting Illinois businesses. Urge lawmakers to oppose SB 25.
Dear [Lawmaker],
I’m writing to urge you to oppose SB 25, the Energy Omnibus Bill. The House is considering a bill this week that threatens to raise utility bills for major employers, while weakening our state’s ability to attract and retain investment. Should it come to you, please oppose it. These proposals shift the cost of energy storage and renewable mandates onto large energy users – costs that threaten our state’s ability to compete for jobs and investments. Even worse, the bill removes key cost controls and allows rate increases without accountability to taxpayers or the General Assembly. States that have pursued similar policies, such as California and New York, have become cautionary tales: rising electricity costs, lost manufacturing jobs and declining competitiveness. Illinois can’t afford to follow that path. As costs rise, employers could be forced to make tough decisions about future growth, job creation and where to invest. There is a better path without increasing utility bills for Illinois’ businesses. As a proud Illinoisan, I support innovation in energy, but it must be balanced, cost-conscious, and competitive. Illinois should promote private-sector investment through responsible financing programs, not guaranteed returns for developers at the expense of ratepayers. I urge you to support our state’s business community by opposing SB 25. Thank you for protecting our state’s economic future.
Sincerely,
______
