Protecting Sussex’s Rural Character and Supporting Local Careers
To Members of the Board of Supervisors,
As operating engineers who train right here in Sussex County, we strongly support the Blackwater Solar project. For years, the IUOE Training Center in Disputanta has been a fixture of this community, and this project allows us to put that training to work directly in our own backyard. We recognize the importance of the county’s rural character. We appreciate that the developer listened to community feedback by removing battery storage and reducing the project's footprint. What remains is a low-impact development that provides a massive infusion of funding for our local 911 equipment, fire departments, and EMS services. Our members want to work, earn, and build something real at home. By approving Blackwater Solar, you are choosing to support the next generation of Sussex workers and provide the revenue needed to modernize our schools and infrastructure.
