The Centers for Independent Living (CILs) in Michigan provide essential services for persons with disabilities to gain independence and participate in their communities. However, the current state budget proposal is requesting to set budget costs at a forty percent loss from the previous year. If funding is decreased, expenses will appear in other places when persons with disabilities are reliant on other programs as a consequence. The fifteen CILs provide services included independent living skill training, peer support, community transition services, employment services, advocacy, and housing assistance.
