Legislative Regulation Review Committee — Kratom Scheduling Proposal
Dear [Lawmaker],
I am writing as a Connecticut resident to urge you to reject the proposed blanket scheduling of all kratom products. The proposal before you ignores both science and the public record. During the official comment period and public hearing, over 91% of submitted comments and testimonies opposed scheduling natural kratom leaf, with repeated calls for Connecticut to distinguish between plant-based products and lab-engineered, high-potency synthetics. By refusing to draw that line, the proposal would wipe out responsible access to natural kratom leaf while failing to address the real public health risk: synthetic, opioid-like derivatives intentionally marketed as “kratom,” despite having little in common with the plant itself. [Insert your personal story here.] I respectfully ask the Committee to adopt targeted, evidence-based regulation that focuses enforcement efforts on unsafe synthetic products while maintaining access to natural kratom leaf products. Connecticut consumers deserve clarity, safety, and smart, science-led policy — not blanket bans that create consumer confusion and unintended consequences. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
______
