New Yorkers are already struggling to afford the high cost of living and groceries in the state. Lawmakers should be doing everything they can to bring down costs and support families, local businesses and their employees. However, lawmakers have proposed a new bill that would do the opposite.
Our state already has systems in place to oversee ingredients safety, however the proposed GRAS bill would create a complicated new state bureaucracy without support or expertise layered on top of federal requirements. This adds a burdensome review and compliance process that companies will have to undertake just to keep operating in New York. This would increase grocery costs, take choices from consumers, and create unnecessary burdens for local businesses. The last thing the state needs right now is a new oversight role that would hurt New Yorkers and hinder the growth of businesses that support our economy and provide jobs across the state.
Your voice matters. As employees in New York’s food and beverage industry, tell lawmakers to oppose this costly and confusing legislation before it’s too late.
