Under pressure from SJP, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln student government is considering an antisemitic boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) resolution on February 4. The libelous resolution calls on the University to divest from companies that do business with Israel.

To the University of Nebraska administration and regents:

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) is demanding that the University divest from companies that do business with Israel. This demand is not about students, education, or campus well-being. It is part of the antisemitic boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) campaign, which explicitly seeks to economically punish American companies for engaging in lawful international commerce.

These divestment campaigns target US-based businesses, workers, and investors — many with no direct connection to campus life — while exposing universities to financial, legal, and reputational risk. Divestment does nothing to improve outcomes for Nebraska students, lower tuition, or enhance academic opportunities. Instead, it politicizes university investments and undermines fiduciary responsibility.

Nationally, BDS activity on college campuses has also been linked to increased antisemitic incidents and a hostile climate for Jewish, Israeli, and Zionist students. By pushing the student government to adopt a slanderous and one-sided resolution, SJP is attempting to legitimize a campaign that brings division and intimidation to campus while harming American companies.

At a time of rising antisemitism and economic uncertainty, the University of Nebraska should not lend credibility to a movement that targets American businesses and fuels campus hostility. I urge the administration and Board of Regents to publicly and unequivocally reject calls to divest from Israel and to distance the University from the antisemitic BDS campaign altogether.

Doing so will affirm that the University prioritizes student welfare, responsible stewardship, and an inclusive campus over outside campaigns of hate that harm both American companies and our local campus community.

The radical anti-Israel campus group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) is pushing for you to adopt a resolution demanding that the University divest from companies that do business with Israel. This demand is not about students, education, or campus well-being. It is part of the antisemitic boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) campaign, which explicitly seeks to economically punish American companies for engaging in lawful international commerce.

The slanderous resolution is disguised as an effort to uphold “the values, culture, and mission of the University of Nebraska and the needs of students.” However, it is actually part of a longstanding, well-organized campaign to demonize, ostracize, and isolate Israel, the world’s only Jewish state.
