House Public Safety Committee — HSB 508 (Kratom Ban Bill)
Dear [Lawmaker],
I am writing as an Iowa resident to express my strong opposition to HSB 508, a bill that would effectively ban natural kratom leaf products in our state. This proposal fails to distinguish between natural kratom leaf and synthetic or highly concentrated derivatives that are often marketed misleadingly and raise legitimate public-health concerns. Treating these fundamentally different products as though they are the same ignores science, consumer experience, and common sense. A blanket ban would eliminate responsible access to natural kratom leaf while doing nothing to address the substances that actually pose risk. This approach would create confusion, harm consumers, and produce unintended consequences — without improving public safety. [Insert your personal experience, reason for concern, or perspective here — for example, how natural kratom leaf has affected your life, work, or wellness.] I respectfully urge you to oppose any bans on kratom and to contact House Public Safety Committee Chair Rep. Vondran and ask him not to schedule Kratom by advancing HSB 508, and instead support a targeted, evidence-based regulatory approach that distinguishes natural kratom leaf from unsafe synthetic products. Thank you for your time and consideration
Sincerely,
______
