Dear [Recipient],

I am writing to urge you to protect New York City municipal employees and retirees by rejecting the proposed self-insured health care contract.

By switching to “self-insured,” the new plan, which will be administered by United Healthcare, will take away critical state consumer protection laws, out-of-pocket costs will increase, and workers and retirees could lose access to the providers they know and trust.

The new plan is supposed to save the city $1 billion, but UnitedHealthcare has failed to show how they will achieve those savings without raising costs for workers.

To make matters worse, the contract for the new plan has only been released in a heavily redacted version, which means that the workers who will be impacted don’t even know the details of their own health insurance.

Withholding information about the details and savings of the plan is fraudulent and lacks the transparency that we deserve. This flawed process has not met the minimum standards for a health care transition that the New York City charter requires.

We need you to stand up for the 750,000 workers, retirees, and families who will be massively impacted by rejecting this contract.
