Dear [Lawmaker],

As a Washingtonian and ZYN retailer, I urge you to reject yet another tax increase that would unfairly raise the tax rate on smoke-free nicotine products like ZYN.

An increased tax on smoke-free nicotine pouches would make it more expensive for adults to purchase these products. ZYN has provided a solution to legal-age consumers seeking a replacement for their traditional tobacco/nicotine products that are known to carry higher risks. Excessively taxing smoke-free nicotine products could inadvertently drive individuals back to smoking.

An excessive new tax would also harm small businesses like mine that sell such products, resulting in loss of sales/revenue when adults who use pouches feel that they must travel to other states to purchase tobacco products where they are more affordable. It could even lead to an illicit market for smoke-free nicotine products in the Evergreen State.

Ultimately, the proposed tax on smoke-free nicotine products would only hurt adult consumers and small businesses in Washington. As your constituent, I urge you to oppose this tax, and as a ZYN retailer, I will be following this issue closely.
