The Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is considering raising the curbside rideshare fee from $5 to an unprecedented $20 per trip, or $40 roundtrip for curbside access.

This would make LAX fees more than 3X higher than any other airport in the U.S.

When rides become too expensive, passengers find other options and drivers lose out. Fewer airport pickups means less earnings for the thousands of drivers who count on LAX trips to support their income.

As rideshare drivers who serve Los Angeles travelers every day, we are deeply troubled by the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) proposal to implement a massive fee hike on rideshare access at LAX.
LAWA is planning to raise the per-trip curbside fee from $5 to an unprecedented $20.
This is an economic crisis for drivers.
When airport rides become unaffordable, passengers don't just pay more—they stop booking rides altogether. They'll turn to personal vehicles, cheaper alternatives, or avoid flying out of LAX entirely. The result? Thousands of drivers who depend on steady airport trips will see their incomes shrink.
A round-trip fare increase of $40 in access fees alone will push LAX costs 3X higher than any other major U.S. airport—and push passengers away from rideshare.
This proposal threatens driver livelihoods.
Airport pickups and drop-offs represent a critical, reliable source of income for rideshare drivers. This fee hike will directly harm drivers like me, who depend on airport rides to support our earnings.
Fewer passengers means fewer trips, longer waits, and diminished earnings for an already stretched workforce.
We urge the BOAC to reject these proposed changes and to consider the ripple effects on the drivers who keep LAX accessible and connected.
