Please Oppose HB 1593, HB 1859, HB 1866, and HB 837
Dear [Lawmaker],
I am writing as your constituent to respectfully urge you to oppose HB 1593, HB 1859, HB 1866, and HB 837 when they come before the full House. These bills do nothing to enhance public safety and instead place unnecessary burdens on Pennsylvania’s law-abiding gun owners. HB 1593 mandates so-called universal background checks, even though every dealer transaction already requires one. This measure only adds costly bureaucratic red tape and will not stop criminals. HB 1859 establishes “red flag” orders that lack due process protections and invite abuse, with no penalty for false accusations. HB 1866 seeks to ban “machine gun conversion” devices that are already illegal under federal and state law. Its vague “rate of fire” language risks criminalizing law-abiding gun owners and even common competition triggers. HB 837, though pulled from committee consideration, would impose handgun rationing by limiting purchases to one per month, an unnecessary infringement on individual rights. These bills advance a political agenda rather than addressing violent crime. I urge you to defend the Second Amendment and the rights of your law-abiding constituents by rejecting these proposals. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
______
