Chinese government-backed automakers and battery companies are looking to build factories in the U.S. – putting millions of American jobs, our economy, and national security at risk.

I’m writing to urge you to take action to prevent Chinese government-backed automakers and advanced battery companies from establishing manufacturing operations inside the United States. This is a critical step to protect America’s auto industry, our workers, and our national security. 
China’s government heavily subsidizes its auto and battery companies, allowing them to chronically overproduce and dump low-cost vehicles into global markets. These practices have already disrupted auto manufacturing in other parts of the world, and the same could happen here if we allow Chinese state-backed auto manufacturers to build facilities inside our borders. 
Beyond the economic threat, China’s connected vehicle technology poses well-documented cybersecurity and surveillance risks. Allowing Chinese government-aligned automakers to operate inside the U.S. would jeopardize American data, supply chains, and long-term competitiveness. 
I ask you to: 
Prevent Chinese government-backed auto and battery manufacturers from setting up operations in the U.S. 
Support policies that strengthen and grow America’s own auto and battery supply chains. 
Maintain strict limits on Chinese connected vehicle technologies that pose cybersecurity and national security risks. 
Work with U.S. automakers and allies to counter China’s strategy to dominate global automaking and critical supply chains. 
The U.S. auto industry supports 11 million American jobs and drives more than a trillion dollars into our economy each year. We cannot allow unfairly subsidized Chinese auto companies to undermine that foundation or threaten our national security.  
Please stand with American workers, our industrial base, and our long-term economic strength by taking decisive action on this issue.
