Oppose HB 1593, HB 1859, HB 1866, HB 837, HB 1099.
Dear [Lawmaker],
I urge you to oppose the slate of gun control bills scheduled before the House Judiciary Committee on Monday, September 22. These measures punish law-abiding citizens while doing nothing to hold criminals accountable. HB 1593 would mandate so-called “universal background checks.” Every dealer transaction in the country already requires a background check. This bill won’t stop criminals but will burden lawful purchasers with more red tape and delays in the Pennsylvania PICS system—denying citizens their rights when they need them most. HB 1859 would create “red flag” orders that are highly susceptible to abuse, provide little to no due process, and impose no penalties for false accusations. HB 1866 would ban “machine gun conversion” devices, which are already prohibited under both federal and state law, making this bill redundant. HB 837 would restrict citizens from purchasing more than one handgun per month. There is no evidence that firearm rationing improves public safety. This is an unconstitutional infringement on the Second Amendment. HB 1099 purports to ban “ghost guns.” This is a made-up, hyperbolic term which can literally mean anything, and in this case, that is exactly what anti-gun legislators are doing. They are conflating “un-serialized” firearms with “undetectable” firearms. While one issue deals with serial numbers, the latter deals which manufacturing materials. HB 1099 is bad law because it would make the state language different than existing federal law. HB 1099 also does not have important exemptions which were put into federal law as necessary safeguards to protect otherwise law-abiding persons. Pennsylvania’s law-abiding gun owners should not be forced to pay the price for crimes they did not commit. I respectfully ask you to reject these bills and any new gun control measures considered by the House. Thank you for your time and for standing up for the constitutional rights of your constituents.
Sincerely,
______
