Take a stand for Turo
Dear [Lawmaker],
I’m a New Yorker and an active peer-to-peer car sharing user. I’m reaching out to you today to voice my support for peer-to-peer car sharing and ask that you establish fair insurance requirements to help keep Turo in New York. Peer-to-peer car sharing provides a vital resource for New Yorkers. However, the legislature has unfairly decided to make the insurance requirements for peer-to-peer car sharing 25x higher than traditional rental car companies, creating liability costs of $62/day compared to $4.20/day in the rest of the country. If lawmakers don’t establish fair regulations, it could make it virtually impossible for companies like Turo to operate in New York. This would not only hurt me, it would hurt all New Yorkers who depend on Turo to supplement their income, and it would also be a disservice to those seeking an affordable vehicle access alternative. Peer-to-peer car sharing helps put real dollars in the pockets of real New Yorkers, allowing them to share their cars to make ends meet and battle the rising cost of living. Lawmakers should support initiatives that foster New York’s entrepreneurial spirit and provide residents with an opportunity for economic independence. If we want New York to be open for business, we need to support industries that support us, New Yorkers. Other peer-to-peer car sharing services have ceased operations in the state due to crushing insurance costs — don’t let that happen to Turo. As a resident, I’m asking you to please support fair regulations for peer-to-peer car sharing. The Empire State should welcome industries that can boost our economy and help New Yorkers thrive, not kill them with unfair regulations.
Sincerely,
______
