Tell The Council: Now is Not the Time for a Bottle Bill

D.C. is already one of the most expensive places to live and work. Now the D.C. Council is considering a bottle bill that would raise prices on everyday groceries and threaten local jobs in our industry.

As employees who care about our community, we’re committed to keeping D.C. affordable, helping the local economy grow, and supporting the people we serve every day. This new D.C. bottle bill proposal would make it harder for families and businesses across the District.

Tell The Council: say NO to the D.C. bottle bill TODAY.

Dear [Lawmaker],

I am writing as an employee in the beverage industry to express my concern and opposition to the proposed D.C. Bottle Bill. While I appreciate the goal of protecting our environment, this bill would increase costs and create complications for companies like mine, which would very likely have a direct impact on workers like me who depend on our jobs here in the District.

Beverage companies and their employees have already been hit hard by inflation and ongoing economic downturns. So we shouldn’t be making things worse by forcing companies to pay more under this program and potentially take on new administrative duties they aren’t trained for. That could mean real challenges for our industry and for employees.

We all want to see D.C. thrive and we share the goal of reducing litter and taking action to keep our environment clean. But that means supporting policies that protect the environment and provide a strong footing for the workers and companies that are important to the community. This bill does not accomplish that.

Please stand with local workers and beverage companies who are vital to the strength of the District. Say NO to the D.C. Bottle Bill.
