Mosaic is a strategic investment in the County’s long-term social stability, youth mental health, and community safety. Its research-based approach builds empathy, belonging, and cross-cultural understanding among children at a formative age—directly advancing the County’s priorities around equity, violence prevention, and healthy communities.

As a longtime partner to the Alameda County education community, one thing is clear — Alameda County needs The Mosaic Project here in our backyard.

Dear [Lawmaker],

I am writing to urge you to follow the recommendation of the County Planning Staff and approve the Conditional Use Permit for The Mosaic Project.
This is not just a permit; it is a strategic investment in the long-term operational viability of a vital school partner that addresses the root causes of bias, isolation, and conflict in youth at a formative age—before they escalate into disciplinary or public safety issues.
A "No" vote creates an unsustainable future for Mosaic, which currently serves 18 Alameda County schools (34 across the broader Bay Area) and gives transformative experiences to thousands of our children. 
After 10 years of technical study and $1M in planning, the County has officially recommended approval, advising that it meets the four findings required for a Conditional Use Permit – it is a low-intensity use (95% of the land will stay in its natural state), meets zoning requirements, preserves the character of the area, and poses no health or safety risks. 
Mosaic cannot continue to meet the youth social and mental health crises on a "wait and see" model of rented land; our schools need the stability of this permanent site now.
County approval would legally restrict Mosaic’s capacity and operations to no more than 108 campers and counselors per session, and be limited to only one-third of the year — making it a low-impact project within the canyon that leaves a greater positive impact on our youth.
We are asking the Board to secure the future of an organization that has stabilized our schools and neighborhoods for a quarter-century.
