For decades, the Institute of Museums and Library Services (IMLS) has provided significant funding for state and local museums and libraries. Among the purposes for which almost every state uses these funds are for library services for people who are blind or have low vision or other reading disabilities. As a result of the proposing elimination of the IMLS under Executive Order 14238, Congress is considering, in the 2026 fiscal year budget, the elimination of all appropriations that would have been made through that agency.
