Dear Representative,
As a parent, I do my best to guide my kids’ use of technology, but right now, the system makes that harder than it needs to be. Every app has its own settings, rules, and safety features, leaving parents to manage dozens of tools and hope nothing slips through the cracks.
That’s why I’m writing to you today to encourage you to pass H.R. 3149, the App Store Accountability Act, which would simplify and strengthen online safety for teens. Parents would approve apps once at the App Store level, not through multiple individual platforms. Age verification would ensure teens are experiencing age-appropriate content across all apps, rather than relying on inconsistent settings or manual oversight.
Just as importantly, teens wouldn’t be able to simply change their birthday or bypass controls. Verification would prevent workarounds and hidden downloads, giving parents clear oversight into what’s being installed before apps ever reach a device.
This isn’t about limiting access or innovation, it’s about building a system that supports families instead of overwhelming them. I respectfully urge you to pass the App Store Accountability Act to support families and ensure teens are safer online.
