Keep Washington Communities Safe
Dear [Lawmaker],
I am writing to you today to urge you to oppose Senate Bill 6002. Crime remains a concern for me and many families across Washington. Keeping our communities safe requires people working together but also tools that enable local authorities to solve crimes and capture offenders. Unfortunately, SB 6002 would limit how some of these crime stopping technologies would work. The bill places a limit on license plate reader (LPR) data retention to just 72 hours, not giving our law enforcement professionals enough time to review information and ultimately catch criminals. It would also prohibit local communities from sharing data between jurisdictions, making it difficult to solve crimes when boundaries are crossed. These technologies have already helped track down missing children and taken drunk drivers off our highways. Please work to give our communities the tools they need to keep our neighborhoods safe and oppose SB 6002. Thank you for your concern for this issue.
Sincerely,
______
