Oppose S.1425/A.3789 and A.6211
Dear [Lawmaker],
As a New Jersey resident and your constituent, I urge you to OPPOSE S.1425/A.3789 and A.6211 when they come before the Assembly Judiciary Committee. S.1425/A.3789 goes far beyond targeting firearms traffickers. New Jersey already has one of the strictest firearm transfer processes in the country, requiring both state and federal background checks before a dealer can release a firearm. Punishing dealers who “reasonably should know” a purchaser is prohibited—despite the State itself approving the transfer—exposes honest, law-abiding dealers to severe penalties for actions fully compliant with existing laws. This bill can be fixed by simply requiring that a dealer actually know a purchaser is prohibited. Without this change, the bill threatens legitimate businesses rather than real criminals. A.6211 is likewise deeply concerning. By enhancing penalties for so-called trespass with a firearm, the bill would effectively expand New Jersey’s already overbroad list of “sensitive places” and impose severe, even lifetime, firearm bans on lawful concealed carry permit holders. This legislation undermines the rights affirmed in the Bruen decision and places responsible citizens at unnecessary risk. Again, I respectfully urge you to vote NO on S.1425/A.3789 and A.6211. Thank you for your service to our state.
Sincerely,
______
