Audit the City of Austin, NOW!

Dear [Lawmaker],

Following the failed ballot initiative of Proposition Q, I am urging you to authorize a full, independent audit of the city’s finances to be conducted by a reputable third-party auditing firm with no prior ties to the City of Austin.

For too long, Austinites have faced rising taxes, increased fees, and ballooning debt while confidence in the City’s fiscal management has declined. The public deserves an impartial, comprehensive financial audit that evaluates not only the accuracy of Austin’s accounting practices but also the efficiency, transparency, and accountability of city spending.

An Independent audit would not only restore public trust by ensuring that taxpayers’ money is being managed responsibly, but also identify waste, inefficiency, and misuse of funds that may otherwise remain undiscovered under an internal review process.

Every Austin resident deserves to know that the billions of dollars managed annually by the city are accounted for with accuracy and honesty. This is a matter of civic integrity!

I urge you to place this matter on the Council Agenda and vote to engage a nationally recognized, independent auditing firm to conduct a full audit of the city’s finances and financial practices.
