Your Voice Matters!
Dear City of Pascagoula Leadership,
I am writing to oppose the City of Pascagoula’s proposed annexation plan. The process lacks transparency, raises serious infrastructure concerns, and fails to demonstrate how the city will maintain additional areas when existing infrastructure is already being neglected. I urge you to reconsider and pursue a more open, responsible, and community-focused approach. Key decisions have been made behind closed doors, excluding meaningful public input. In other communities, similar annexations have resulted in significantly higher real-world costs than initially projected, raising concerns about whether the city’s current estimates fully reflect long-term infrastructure and service obligations. The city’s financial study projects that annexation will generate approximately $28–30 million in annual revenue while requiring less than $3 million per year in ongoing costs after Year Two. Pascagoula already struggles with aging infrastructure, boil water advisories, flooding, and deteriorating roads. Given that the city currently spends roughly $27 million annually to serve a much smaller geographic area, it is reasonable to question whether these projections fully account for the long-term infrastructure, staffing, and service demands of more than doubling the city’s footprint. The Jackson County Board of Supervisors and businesses in the proposed area have long supported the community. The proposed annexation risks weakening these critical partnerships. Jackson County is one of the city’s largest financial partners, contributing millions of dollars in discretionary funds every year. This includes critical improvements that benefit residents, businesses and the city government itself. These are investments the City of Pascagoula could not have funded alone. Ironically, annexation would deprive the city of the very funds it has relied on for years by reducing the county’s budget. I respectfully urge you to withdrawal this plan from the court and instead focus on repairing current infrastructure, strengthening community ties, and restoring public trust through transparent governance. How much additional taxpayer money will be spent on an annexation that isn’t even scheduled for a court hearing until 2027 and has no guarantee of approval? Thank you for your time and service.
Sincerely,
______
