Employees: Help Us Keep Investing in New York Communities and Jobs

Every day, our industry invests in local economies, supports good-paying jobs and helps New York communities thrive. Our work is crucial in keeping everyday goods available for New Yorkers and in creating jobs and opportunities for employees like myself.

Recently, lawmakers have proposed recycling legislation that take costly, unprecedented and inefficient approaches that would hurt hardworking New Yorkers and the businesses serving them. There are better ways to improve recycling—solutions already being used in other states—that are much more efficient, convenient, and financially stable.

Stand with your colleagues to oppose harmful approaches to recycling and call for more effective recycling solutions for New York!

Dear [Lawmaker],

I am writing to you as an employee of [MEMBER COMPANY] and one of XX workers employed by the beverage industry in New York. Every day, we deliver beverage products to New Yorkers across the state, and we stand opposed to costly legislation that would severely impact our livelihoods with no significant positive impact on recycling.
We work hard to provide goods to local stores and families. If our production lines in New York come to a halt, good-paying jobs supported by the beverage industry, including Teamster jobs, would be impacted.
Companies like mine are critical to the well-being of the local economy and thousands of workers. We feel we have a responsibility to make a positive contribution to the communities where we live and work. We support well-designed recycling programs, based on consensus legislation adopted in other states -- including Minnesota, Maryland and Colorado -- that allow for programs that are more efficient, effective, financially sustainable and convenient for consumers. 
I stand with my colleagues in the industry in prioritizing real solutions that will improve New York’s recycling system and provide long-term benefits for our communities, hardworking employees across the state and our environment.
