Protect Florida Values – Oppose Regulatory Overreach In The Sunshine State
I am writing to strongly oppose these proposals. These changes threaten Florida’s banks, consumers, and broader economy, while undermining the integrity of our state’s legislative process and the progress made at the federal level under President Trump. President Trump has led the way in advancing pro-growth policies and limiting government overreach. His administration has taken important steps to stop government-driven, politicized debanking, including through a recent executive order. We need continued federal leadership and Congressional action, not a patchwork of state rules. Florida’s proposed changes sidestep the legislature and expand the administrative state, undermining Florida’s checks and balances. The executive branch should not legislate from within state agencies. We can’t afford to jeopardize the important work our governor and legislature have done to protect free markets and keep Florida’s economy growing. Other states, such as Texas and Louisiana, have shown the better path by urging Congress and the President to act, rather than layering on more state regulations that could harm consumers and businesses. Florida should follow their example to maintain its reputation as a pro-business, pro-growth state. By imposing separate state requirements, banks will be left to navigate conflicting state and federal laws, especially around national security and anti-money laundering. The result will be more red tape, legal uncertainty, and an increased risk of account closures, not less. Community banks and credit unions, with limited legal and compliance resources, will be hit the hardest, threatening their ability to serve Floridians. Innovation in financial services would also be stifled. Institutions will be less likely to develop new products or serve new markets if there is a risk of being caught up in regulatory or political crossfire. This is the opposite of the environment Florida should be fostering. I urge you to withdraw these harmful changes. Florida should support President Trump’s efforts to end government-driven debanking at the federal level and let Congress modernize banking laws.
Sincerely,
______
