As a New Jersey resident, I am deeply concerned about the alarming rise in antisemitism in New Jersey and around the world as evidenced by the horrible act of antisemitic terrorism we witnessed on Sunday at a Chanukah Menorah lighting in Sydney, Australia. These events underscore the urgency in addressing this pervasive and resurgent threat at every opportunity.
As Governor Murphy has stated, “Antisemitism is a growing global problem that poses serious and immediate threats to public safety. It must be condemned forcefully and unequivocally."
The Legislature’s passage of the IHRA Antisemitism legislation (A3558/S1292) is essential to ensuring the safety and security of New Jersey’s Jewish community — and symbolic of a strong stand against hate. It provides state and local authorities, including law enforcement, with a clear, standardized tool to identify antisemitic conduct when enforcing existing hate crime and anti-discrimination laws.
I respectfully urge you to stand up against antisemitism by supporting the passage of A3558/S1292. Specifically, I ask that you request legislative leadership to bring this bill to a floor vote during the lame-duck session and that you vote YES when it comes before you.
