New Mexico is making real progress towards improved literacy outcomes. Today, 44% of students are reading at grade level, up from 36% in 2022. That progress matters, but we can’t stop now.
Senate Bill 37 builds on recent literacy improvements by making sure families and schools have the tools they need to keep moving forward.
The bill will:
- Notify parents when their child needs reading support
- Require reading improvement plans for struggling students
- Strengthen instruction with high-quality materials
- Support teachers with ongoing training and coaching
SB 37 is the next step to keep New Mexico’s literacy progress going and ensure more children become strong readers.
