The New Mexico Oil Conservation Division (OCD) has $60M in the Reclamation Fund—paid by oil & gas companies specifically to clean up orphaned wells.
The OCD has the authority and resources to remediate these wells, but they continue to stall.
These wells must be remediated in an expeditious manner through the proper utilization of the Reclamation Fund.
There is more than enough money paid exclusively by oil and gas companies and designated federal dollars to address abandoned wells—if OCD starts spending the dollars and contracting with additional experts ready and willing to do the work.
