STOP The Clear Horizons Act

Dear [Lawmaker],

I am writing to encourage you to oppose Senate bill 18, the Clear Horizons Act. On the surface, this legislation parades as beneficial to New Mexicans, but it will only cost them countless opportunities and could devastate the state's economy, schools, and hospitals. 
Clear Horizons has been mislabeled as a bill about energy when in reality it's about education, healthcare, and jobs. 
Clear Horizons fails to take into count these facts:
- Oil and gas contributed $13 Billion annually to the state's economy and accounted for funding 49% of the state's budget 
- Methane emissions in the Permian Basin were reduced by 26% in 2023, preventing over 18.5 million tons of CO₂-equivalent emissions 
- The oil and gas industry supports 100,000 jobs in the New Mexico  
These contributions can't be ignored, and I urge you to think about the thousands of students that have benefited from the $2.3 billion in school funding from production royalties. 
Thank you for your leadership, and sticking up for the future New Mexico deserves.
