Oppose HB 577 Semi-Automatic Handgun Ban
Dear [Lawmaker],
As a Maryland resident and your constituent, I respectfully urge you to OPPOSE House Bill 577, legislation that would ban many commonly owned semi-automatic handguns possessed by law-abiding citizens. HB 577 uses vague and overly broad language to prohibit so-called “machine gun convertible pistols,” potentially sweeping in a wide range of standard, legally owned firearms. Conversion devices are already illegal under current law. Rather than addressing criminal misuse, this bill unfairly burdens responsible firearm owners who follow the law. Public safety is best served by enforcing existing laws and targeting criminal behavior — not by restricting the rights of lawful Marylanders exercising their right to self-defense. Again, I respectfully urge you to OPPOSE HB 577 in committee. Thank you for your time and consideration.
