As a constituent, I urge you to reject S.B. 2040. The bill could make access to affordable health care more difficult for patients like me and cause massive disruptions to our ability to access our medications — while doing nothing to address rising drug prices.

The bill could rip away pharmacy care options for more than 1.5 million people who are relying on their local CVS Pharmacy for care.

If this bill passes, it could eliminate 134 pharmacies where Tennessee patients like me shop and receive our medications. These pharmacies help provide acute and preventative care that many individuals in my community rely on. If this happens, my community could lose the health care professionals we depend on. S.B. 2040 could lead to delays in care and reduced access.

S.B. 2040 could also take away options we have to get our medications shipped right to our homes. This bill also seeks to ban the pharmacies that serve patients suffering from complex diseases requiring specialty pharmacy care to manage their life-threatening conditions like organ transplants or cancer. This could impact more than 35,000 patients in our state who have complex conditions. These vulnerable patients cannot afford any disruption to their care.

Putting the lives of Tennessee patients – some of whom are seriously ill – at risk in this way is unacceptable and not what Tennessee stands for. As a patient who could be directly impacted by S.B. 2040 and your constituent, I respectfully urge you to oppose S.B. 2040.
