Vermont: Oppose S. 131
Dear [Lawmaker],
I am a Vermont voter in your district, and I urge you to oppose S. 131, the Burlington charter change that would let the city ban lawful firearms in any establishment serving alcohol. Violates preemption. For decades, state law has ensured one consistent set of firearm rules statewide. S. 131 would upend that protection and create a confusing patchwork. Disarms the law-abiding, not criminals. More than 95 percent of mass-casualty events happen in so-called “gun-free zones.” Creating new ones only makes citizens softer targets. Ignores Burlington’s policing shortfall. With officer staffing already low, taking away the right to self-defense will further endanger residents and visitors. Please vote NO on S. 131 and any attempt to erode Vermont’s long-standing firearm preemption law. Thank you for defending the rights and safety of responsible Vermonters.
Sincerely,
