Demand Lawmakers Oppose Cost-Increasing Government Health Care Mandates

Arizonans overwhelmingly want lower prescription drug costs. And, 53% of Arizona likely voters reported experiencing higher prescription and overall healthcare costs in 2023. So why are Arizona lawmakers considering proposals that will make it more expensive for employers to offer their employees affordable health care benefits?

More big government health care mandates that tell employers how to run their businesses will mean higher prescription drug costs for hard working Arizonans. These costs come in the form of increased out-of-pocket costs on prescriptions, more expensive premiums, and higher deductibles – all while putting vulnerable patients, such as those receiving cancer treatment, at risk. When given the choice, 68% of Arizonans agree: they would rather pick up their prescription at a certain pharmacy at a discounted price, rather than picking up their prescription at any pharmacy at the regular price.

I strongly urge you to oppose any legislation that will raise costs by injecting more government red tape into the health care system, especially bills that would impose even more health care mandates on employers that offer health care benefits to their employees. This type of government overreach just means more bureaucracy for small businesses, and higher health care costs for everyone.
Polling shows that 68% of Arizonans would rather pick up their prescription at a certain pharmacy at a discounted price, rather than picking up their prescription at any pharmacy at the
regular price. Forcing the government even further into our health care system undermines the ways businesses provide lower-cost prescription drug options to their employees, and, if passed, would increase costs for everyone. Employers know what is best for them and their employees – they don’t need even more government mandates in health care.
Lawmakers should focus on solutions that encourage competition, instead of restricting pharmacy benefits small businesses need to be able to provide affordable health care to their employees.
We all agree prescription drug costs are too high, but overregulation isn’t the answer. I urge you to protect free-market solutions and oppose government overreach in our health system.
